Google Chrome 4.0.223.9 Beta - Googles Antwort auf IE und FF

Mit Chrome ist im Hause Google ein Webbrower entstanden, der Internet Explorer und FireFox Konkurrenz machen möchte. Der in der Entwicklung befindliche Browser wird bislang für Windows XP und Vista entwickelt, später sollen Versionen für Linux und Mac OS X folgen. Neue Maßstäbe möchte Chrome vor allem in Sachen Geschwindigkeit setzten, aber auch den Nutzer langsam an Cloud-Computing heranführen, was allerdings von Datenschützern skeptisch gesehen wird.
Grundlegend basiert Google Chrome auf der WebKit Engine, die zum Darstellen der (HTML) Webseiten verwendet wird. WebKit stammt aus dem Hause Apple und kommt beispielsweise auch in Googles Handy Betriebssystem Android und in Apples Safari Browser zum Einsatz. Daneben wird für JavaScript die sogenannte V8 Javascript Enginge verwendet. Diese in Dänemarkt entwickelte Engine setzt neue Maßstäbe in Sachen Rendergeschwindigkeit, wobei man allerdings drauf hinweisen muss, dass Experten diese Geschwindigkeitstests kritisieren da sie ihre Vorteile nur bei einer hohen verfügbaren Bandbreite ausspielen kann.
Hervorzuheben ist die Tatsache, dass Tabs und Plugins in Google Chrome als getrennte Prozesse laufen. Blockiert ein Tab oder ein Plugin kann es einfach über den Taskmanager geschlossen werden, ohne dass der ganze Browser mit in den Abgrund gerissen wird. Darüber hinaus laufen alle Prozesse in einer Art Sandbox, also weitgehend Abgetrennt vom Rest des Systems. So soll verhindert werden, dass ein bösartiger Prozess sich Zugriff auf andere Webanwendungen in Chrome oder gar das System verschafft.
Das Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik rät allerdings von der Verwendung Google Chromes ab. Neben der Tatsache, dass das Programm noch eine unfertige Beta-Version ist wird angegeben, dass Google Chrome unter umständen Daten an Google übersendet.
